IF-1: RS-232 to RS-485 Multidrop Interface Converter

Our IF-1 is an interface converter that allows RS-485 devices to be controlled from a RS-232 host computer. The RS-485 interface supports full multidrop capability, allowing one IF-1 to interface with a large number of distributed RS-485 remote devices. The advantage that RS-485 provides is an increased range over RS-232, typically allowing communication over up to 400 meters at 9600 BPS.

The use of an industry standard DS75176 RS-485 driver ensures a high level of compatability with the RS-485 standard. Additionally, standard RS-232 signal levels are assured through the use of a MAX-232 driveri, so you will not have interfacing difficulties caused by non-standard voltages as are found on some, cheaper, interface converters.

Full diagnostic indicators are installed to provide a rapid, visual indication of data flow on the RS-485 bus.

To ensure rapid repair, both line drivers are fully socketed to allow for rapid replacement in the unlikely event that they are damaged through an external high energy surge.

Power is able to be provided from an external 7 - 35v DC source.
